On the banks of the Jiaolai River, a nursery song is popular: “Pucao is a grass, and the river girl is well-prepared; if it is not a priceless treasure, every household cannot leave.” Although the poppies were popular in the local area, with the popularity of a wide variety of banana fans, paper fans, cloth fans, and feather fans, hand-made poplar fans are on the verge of extinction, and only a few people are still adhering to this ancient craft.

This year's 80-year-old Guo Suyun was born in Guoliu Village, Xinhe Township. The preparation of the poplar fan is not only a hobby for her continuation of folk crafts, but also a way for her to spend time and earn pocket money. Guo Suyun’s old man was a dexterous young girl, like a grasshopper, a feast mat, a monk's coat, and a poplar, etc. She didn’t have to teach it. She could compile it with her finished product. In the early 1960s, Guo Suyun, who was the wife's mother, had to participate in collective labor during the day due to the growth needs of the four children. In the evening, the fan and sandals were prepared and sold at the market to subsidize the family.

The reporter learned that the reason why Xinhe Town has been handicrafted since ancient times is due to the unique geographical environment of the town. Xinhe Town is the “Little Siberia” of Qingdao City. It is less than 20 kilometers away from Bohai Bay and is the nearest place to the Bohai Bay in Qingdao. It is also the lowest elevation in Qingdao, with an elevation of 0.8 meters. It is the Jiaolai River and Ze The rivers, Puyang River, and Shuangshan River enter the sea intersection.
